ACCRA, March 11 (Xinhua) -- U. S. Ambassador to Ghana Donald Teitelbaum said on Friday Washington was confident and optimistic that the 2012 general election in Ghana would be free and fair and very peaceful.
"The people of Ghana are very clear in their expectations from all those involved, they want a peaceful election, they want the loser to accept the loss and they want the winner to be gracious in victory", Teitebaum told the media here.
He declared that the success chalked by Ghana in setting the pace as the beacon of democracy in Africa was not likely to be disrupted by the electorate.
The ambassador called on all stakeholders to play their respective roles well to ensure a peaceful, free, fair and transparent election in 2012.
The American envoy described the political crisis in other African countries like Libya and Cote d'Ivoire were tragic.
However, Teitebaum said, the political and economic stability in Ghana had made the West African country the preferred destination for most American investors.
He also predicted that Ghana's economic growth could be more than 10 percent in the coming years.
