VIENNA, March 11 (Xinhua) --The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said on Friday that it is ready to help Japan hard hit by massive earthquake and ensuing tsunamis.
"The IAEA continues to stand ready to provide technical assistance of any kind, should Japan request this," IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano said.
IAEA's Incident and Emergency Center (IEC) continues to liaise with the Japanese authorities, and is in full response mode to monitor the situation closely round the clock, the UN nuclear watchdog 's statement said.
Japan has informed IAEA that four of its nuclear plants close to devastated areas have been shut down and so far there has been no release of radiation.
IAEA is also seeking more information on other countries and nuclear facilities that might be affected by the disaster.
