DAMASCUS, March 13 (Xinhua) -- Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Chief of the Iraqiya List bloc Ayad Allawi discussed Sunday the situation in Iraq, Syrian official SANA news agency reported.
The two sides underlined the joint efforts to achieve security and stability in Iraq and a national agreement among Iraqi political parties.
Iraqiya List's media office in Damascus told Xinhua by phone that Allawi's visit aimed at consultation with the Syrian leadership on the latest developments in Iraq and the region as well as the bilateral relations between Syria and Iraq.
In September 2010, Allawi and Assad held talks in Damascus on forming the Iraqi national unity government.
