About Twelfth Night

Mumbai's Company Theatre brings its acclaimed vitality and inventiveness to Wuzhen's iconic Ancient Courtyard Theatre. Amidst the splendor of the Chinese wood carved stage, in the quiet setting of this southern Chinese water town, Shakespeare's comic classic unfolds in Hindi, under the skillful and joyous direction of Atul Kumar. How better to celebrate the 450th anniversary of the Bard's birth than to present such a cross cultural feast for the senses?

About the Company Theatre

Since 1993, the Company Theatre (TCT) has been singularly committed to the development of theatre. A registered non-profit organization, TCT is an ensemble of professional and amateur artists. These artists receive professional training and perform in repertory. Under the leadership of Atul Kumar, TCT seeks to explore interdisciplinary art forms, and to develop diverse artist and audience communities all over the world.

TCT conducts nation-wide theatre workshops that involve maximum representation of participants from all backgrounds. These workshops are open to students, corporations, artists and academics. In addition to organizing national and international theatre festivals, TCT has also performed extensively in festivals around the world. In the year 2000, TCT started "Theatre at Home,” through which theatre was taken into living rooms, terraces, backyards and other alternative spaces. TCT has also continuously organized seminars and conferences on theatre-related issues.

团体剧场艺术导演。他在艺术及严肃戏剧的研究和实践上拥有超过二十年的经验。

他在新德里的贾瓦哈拉尔尼赫鲁大学攻读法语和文学专业，之后他又在喀拉拉邦学习了三年的卡塔卡利（舞蹈）和卡拉里帕亚图（武术）。除此之外，他还跟随视觉戏剧大师菲利普·基恩特在法国进修。阿尔·库玛也曾在美国供职于萨克拉门托戏剧公司。他在1993年创立了团体剧场，并且导演了一些享誉国内外的实验戏剧。

除了运营团体剧场，阿图·库玛已经在国内和国际上举办了多个戏剧节和与戏剧相关的活动，如工作坊、研讨会、访谈和国际交流等。

除了推进现场活动和电影工作，阿图·库玛也参与了一些电视节目， 这些都促进了公司戏剧项目的发展。阿图·库玛非常热爱戏剧事业并全身心地将自己投入到其中。

Director: Atul Kumar

Kumar is the Artistic Director of the Company Theatre. He has been involved in the art and pursuit of serious theatre for over two decades.

Atul Kumar studied French and Literature at JNU in New Delhi, after which he spent three years training in Kathakali (dance) and Kalaripayattu (martial art) in Kerala. In addition, he completed advanced studies with master of visual theatre Philippe Genty in France. Atul Kumar has also worked with the Sacramento Theatre Company in the USA.  He founded the Company Theatre in 1993 and has directed several experimental plays that have won wide acclaim in India and abroad.

Under the aegis of the Company Theatre, Kumar has been instrumental in organising national and international theatre festivals and other theatre related events such as workshops, seminars, conferences and international exchanges.

In addition to the work of advancing live events and film, Kumar has also been involved in several television projects, all of which have helped promote the development of the Company Theatre’s theatre projects. Kumar wholeheartedly immerses himself in a theatrical career which he greatly loves.
