About The Maids

The Maids is a pioneering work specially created by China’s master of avant-garde theatre, Meng Jinghui, to be performed at midnight on the stage of the Youth Competition. In the middle of the night, come watch these three men show how Genet’s modern classic is meant to be performed. When the maestro returns to the “plain” surroundings of the Youth Competition stage, he ensures that Wuzhen’s midnight surprise is, in fact, this paragon of simplicity!

关于孟京辉戏剧工作室

孟京辉戏剧工作室自1997年成立至今，以多元化、先锋性为创作原则，创意制作了大量引领中国文化艺术潮流的当代戏剧作品，演出剧目达30余部，屡创华语剧坛奇迹。其中，《恋爱的犀牛》被誉为“当代爱情圣经”，与另一经典喜剧《两只狗的生活意见》都累计达到了1000场演出。

孟京辉戏剧工作室的作品巡演足迹遍及世界各地：2003年，《恋爱的犀牛》曾受邀“韩国首尔未来潮流戏剧节”；2007年，多媒体诗剧《镜花水月》参加墨西哥塞万提斯艺术节；2011年，音乐剧《三个橘子的爱情》曾代表中国当代戏剧亮相法国阿维尼翁戏剧节，同年，《堂吉诃德》受邀西班牙阿玛格罗戏剧节。同时期，《恋爱的犀牛》曾受邀澳大利亚阿德莱德艺术节、布里斯班oz艺术节、墨尔本艺术节，同年，《两只狗的生活意见》曾参加美国华盛顿肯尼迪艺术中心“中国，一个国家的艺术”演出季。2012年，《两只狗的生活意见》在爱丁堡艺术节上热演一个月。同年，多媒体诗剧《镜花水月》参加德国柏林“中国之秋”演出季。

与此同时，孟京辉戏剧工作室还组织过数十场讲座、展览、音乐会、舞蹈、教育工作坊等项目，大力扶持优秀青年艺术家。旨在呈现中国当代最高水准的艺术和创意的同时，更好的让中国当代戏剧走向世界舞台。

About Meng Jinghui Theatre Studio

Founded in 1997, Meng Jinghui Theatre Studio is well known for its diverse and pioneering theatrical works which lead the cultural and artistic trends in contemporary Chinese theater. This jewel of Chinese-language theater has presented more than 30 plays. Its show Rhinoceros in Love was lauded as “the Bible of modern love.” Rhinoceros in Love and the comedy The Life Attitude of Two Dogs were performed more than 1,000 times in total.

The works of Meng Jinghui Theatre Studio have been performed all over the world. In 2003 Rhinoceros in Love was invited to present at the Seoul Future Theater Trends Festival. In 2007 the multimedia poetry play Nada was presented at the Cervantes Art Festival in Mexico. In 2011, the musical A Love Story of Three Oranges represented Chinese contemporary theater at the Festival D’Avignon in France. In the same year, the company’s work Don Quixote was invited to perform at the Almagro Theater Festival in Spain. During this period, the play Rhinoceros in Love was invited to perform in three Australian festivals: the Adelaide Arts Festival, the Brisbane Oz Art Festival and the Melbourne Art Festival. In the same year, The Life Attitude of Two Dogs was part of the performance lineup for “China: A Nation’s Art” at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, USA. In 2012, The Life Attitude of Two Dogs played for a month at the Edinburgh Art Festival. During the same year, the company’s multimedia poetry play Nada was presented as part of the “Chinese Autumn” performance season in Berlin, Germany.

Ming Jinghui Theater also organizes dozens of seminars, exhibitions, concerts, and dance and education workshops in order to support outstanding young artists. Its aim is to develop contemporary Chinese theatrical works of the highest standard, while showcasing contemporary Chinese theater around the world.
